Today early morning, British Airways has canceled its daily flight from Tacoma International Airport to London’s Heathrow Airport. The cloud of volcanic ash from the Icelandic eruption, spread over the British Isles and swept into the continent.
The grounded planes have caused a fall in the shares of major European Airlines. Flights from other American airports flew away when the European air space was closed. Later they turned around and returned to the airport. Flight of British Airways took four hours to get back to London from San Francisco.
Alaska Airlines, Alaska’s busiest carrier, established a special volcano watch task force to keep tabs on the volcano’s ash plume and to decide whether to launch aircraft to the 49th state and how to route them to avoid the cloud. Emergency flights are available for traveling.

Chicago Tribune revealed that US Continental Airlines, not to be confused with Continental Airways. They have re-engaged in merger talks with United Airlines. Talks of a prospect of merger were apparently suspended two years ago at the direction of the Houston-based carrier’s board after early stage exploratory discussions.
