The Jordanian government has warned that the growing number of visitors to Petra poses a threat to the archaeological site, reported Sunday newspaper The Jordan Times. Each day, more than 3,000 tourists visit the site of Petra, while the infrastructure of the ancient city allows the host to only 2,000 visitors.

One hundred thousand tourists visited the city in October just as the Ministry of Tourism. Recognizing this, the Director General of the Department of Antiquities Fawwa Khrayshe consider imposing new regulations.

Petra, a World Heritage site in 1985, generating revenues of approximately $ 20 million or 82% of the income of tourist sites in the kingdom.
